My son purchased a Rochester Royals program from someone on ebay and it was interesting to go through it. During the 1950-51 NBA season I was 11 years old and can recall a Royals game or two before they left Rochester to go to Cincinnati. Games then were played in the old Edgerton Park Sports Arena near today's Jefferson High School.
What was interesting in the program were the ads for the local car dealers, appliance dealers, etc. Most included a phone number such as MAin 1234. No such things as area codes in those days. Do you remember your phone number from 1950? I don't recall our number when we lived on Trafalgar St. but I do remember our phone number when we lived on Flint Street - Genesee 5577M. Note the 'M' on the end - had a party line. After I graduated from Aquinas, I went to work for Western Electric installing a new dial exchange on Genesee Street and the exchange name such as 'Genesee' were replace with three digits. Not as exotic.

I wonder who was on our party line. I know on Flint Street the Nearys were on the same party line and I thing Mrs. Dipple was.
The people that lived next door towards Montgomery(sp) St. I think there names were Simpsons or something like that. Remember, Sarah, Susan.....
Their name was Hartwell and Mrs. Simpson was Mrs. Hartwell's mother. There is an old picture of Mrs. Simpson in the photo section of the Monroe County Library web site when she was a student at West High. Unfortunately I can't find it!
UPDATE: The photo was not Mrs. Simpson. It was of Mrs. Hartwell when she was in High School. The Simpson had lived there a long time and were listed as living there in the City Directory of 1929-30.
yes, the Hartwell's! Boy what a grand house they had. Mrs Simpson's second floor "apartment" was really lovely.
By the way, are you watching the conformation hearing?
Watching it off and on but five of my grandchildren are here for the week. I have to wait in line for one of the TVs!

According to a friend who was a Royals fan in the 50's the first black NBA player was a Rochester Royal.
His name was Dolly King
The Rochester Royals won the NBA championship in the season of 1947-1948.
Amonung the team members were Chuck Connors(the Rifleman) and Otto Graham(NFL Quarterback)
THe Royal are now thw Sacramento Kings
